Savannah River Valley BC
Mourns Long-Time Member
By Pat Robertson
Joe Hamilton, who had been a member of Savannah River Valley Beagle Club since it moved to South Carolina in the 1950s, died July 11, just a few weeks after noting his 90th birthday on June 19.
Joe had recently resided in an Augusta, Ga., area care facility due to several debilitating health issues.
He and Gene Jennings of Evans, Ga., had been a constant field marshal team since the club settled in Edgefield, S.C. in the mid-1960s.
“We had been best friends for 83 years,” said Jennings, who reached his 90th birthday three months before Joe. “We met when his family moved to where we lived when we both were seven years old.”
Gene and Joe were the team that guided almost every field trial at SRVBC in the past half century-plus. They also trained numerous beagles that earned their AKC Championship.
