On November 25, 2017, the Catawba Beagle Club hosted a very successful derby classic. There were 33 entries with 16 braces and one solo. A special thanks goes to the members of the Catawba Beagle Club. Without their dedication to our sport there would not be a derby classic. In addition, they had a good supply of game for the Mid-Dixie.
Each year we mention the stud dogs that produced the derbies in the classics. The male that produced the most is F.C. Surefoot Samuel with eight, F.C. Bub's A & P Dolittle and F.C. Carolina Mr. Dillon each had four. F.C. Indian Trail Lookout, F.C. Close Call Crunch, F.C. Old Friends Mr Tee, F.C. Salt Springs Boker, F.C. Close Call Cato, F.C. Cotton Hill Ben Hur and F.C. Line Rider King James each had two. F.C. Mon Valley Dillon B, F.C. Indian Trail Medicine Man, and F.C. Close Call Connor each had one.
This entry is a good sign for the derby events in the six federations. This will be the first year that a federation will be licensed. Derbies will be able to count one licensed win and 40 points toward their championship. In addition, ABBA is going to award $500.00 to each of the outstanding derbies in each class in the federations. This is in addition to the Purina derby award. More information on the federations derby awards will be forthcoming.
