Grass Lake Gale, owned by Danny Williams and Rob Dillon won the thirteen inch bitch class this afternoon during the Wolverine Beagle Club’s annual licensed trial. The trial was held at Red Cedar Beagle Club near Perry, Michigan. Grass Lake Gale was sired by Field Champion Old Style Spice Hunter. Her dam is Field Champion Terra Haven Gale.

There were sixteen hounds entered in the competition. The beaglers went to the field around ten a m and the entire trial was history by two p m. Rabbits were found with ease on the flat, well-manicured Red Cedar running grounds.

Gale, handled by Danny Williams won the trial based on the strength of two outstanding runs in both first and second series. She ran the front in first series. She tracked the rabbit through cover and then turned and tracked the rabbit flawlessly down a path to win the brace. She was named high hound for second series. Her bracemate, Plum Grove Molly was also called back for second series. In second series Gale again tracked her rabbit through cover and turned the rabbit and ran it down a path. The win was the second for Grass Lake Gale. She previously won Sturgeon Creek and has been called back for second series in every trial on the Northern.

Surefoot Andrea, handled by Bob and Lynette Coil finished second in the trial. She won the Red Cedar trial on the same running grounds less than a week ago. She displayed the same flat footed, straight forward tracking ability today that won her many admirers last week. Andrea is owned by Justus Ammons of North Carolina. Her sire is Field Champion Surefoot Max. Her dam is Field Champion Surefoot Staci.

The morning started out with a nice cool breeze but the wind subsided and the hot, somewhat humid air returned along with the high temperatures. The temperature hit well above eighty-five degrees and the sun was shining brightly.

Dennis Haut from Michigan and Fred Kelso from Wisconsin judged the trial.
