Surefoot Andrea Wins The Thirteen Inch Female Class

Handlers, Bob and Lynette Coil won the licensed trial today at Red Cedar for the third day in a row. After winning both fifteen inch classes Thursday and Friday they won the thirteen inch female class this afternoon with Surefoot Andrea. Andrea is owned by Justus Ammons of North Carolina. Her sire is Field Champion Surefoot Max and her dam is Field Champion Surefoot Staci.

There were nineteen little bitches entered in the competition today. Surefoot Andrea was back in the seventh slot in second series. She was moved into second place for third series. She then defeated the top hound on a path to take home the laurels.

The win was the first for Andrea. This was her derby year. She ran in the federations and placed. Bob and Lynette picked her up just before heading north to participate in the competition on the Northern Circuit. They won a third place ribbon with Andrea last week at Port City.

Her win this afternoon was very impressive. She defeated her bracemates in second and third series from the rear mainly by staying in place and taking her time and tracking straight ahead. Lynette Coil had this to say about Andrea. “She just keeps on coming and is pretty straight on the line. She runs both the front and the back the same. I think she is just coming into her own. Her owner, Justus Ammons really likes her.”

Tom Belcher from Ohio and Greg Phillips from Canada again judged the trial today completing four grueling days of work. The temperature nearly hit ninety all four days with the humidity ranging above 95%. According to the weatherman the temperature felt like ninety five degrees. Even in these extreme conditions they took their time giving each brace plenty of opportunity to prove their worth and did an excellent job of sorting out the hounds.

The Red Cedar membership, lead by President Ed White is to be commended for the fine trial they put on. The club was loaded with rabbits and they were easy to find.

Mary White did the cooking and prepared excellent meals each day. Tom Hawk helped her in the morning by cooking a breakfast for each individual beagler. Tom also drove the wagon hauling the hound to and from the field as needed.
