A great supply of rabbits, Good fellowship, fine food and good hound performances pretty well sums up the days activities at Michiana Beagle Club yesterday on the first day of Michiana’s licensed trial.
Johnny Johnson’s Brownfield Ginger won the thirteen inch bitch class on the strength of two fine runs during both first and second series. Wayne Fisher’s Oak Openings Karen finished second for the second week in a row on the Northern circuit. Ginger and Karen paired off during the high brace yesterday with Ginger getting the nod.
The win was Brownfield Ginger’s third of her career. She needs about 12 points to finish for her championship. Ginger's sire is Field Champion Potomac Chapel Celebration, The second place finish was Oak Opening’s Karens fifth of the 2010 licensed trial season. Karen's sire is Field Champion Tilley's Ace. There were eighteen little bitches entered in the competition.
The trial started out with a steady rain coming down. However, before the morning was over the rain subsided and the weather was great for the rest of the day. Because of the great supply of rabbits the nine braces were finished in first series by eleven a m. Second series was called and the rial was finished before dinner.
Dick Doan and Chuck Poczik handled the judging chores. Clem Deguez and Mike Heminger were the field marshals.
Second Series 13” Females:
1. Brownfield Ginger (1st) vs. Oak Openings Karen (2nd).
2. Char-Line Miss Gwynn vs. True-Run Hazel.
3. Gillum’s Courtyard Lilac (3rd) vs. Surefoot Sherry
4. S & J's Shavonia vs. Grass Lake Gale (NBQ).
Third Series:
1. Oak Openings Karen vs. Gillum's Courtyard Lilac.
