Southern Michigan held a very successful trial encompassing our Hall of Fame Trial, honoring our Beagling Hall of Fame members – Jack Wilson, Al Steinke, Jesse Wilson, and our close and, good friend Bob Keating, and a National Brace Championship Qualifying Trial.
The trial started out with a BBQ dinner on Friday night, hosted by our Kitchen Chairman (Brian Bovee) with help from Milly Williams and donations from various club members (and wives).
The trial started on Saturday, after a minor delay due to a computer glitch in the drawing software, but the dogs went to the field at about 9:30. We had a total entry of 26 females and 7 males. The female class was judged by Bart Hofherr and Kenny “Red Fox” Gererdot. The male class was judged by Tom Baker and Mike Perry.
While the dogs were in the field, the kitchen crew, under the direction of Milly Williams, began the massive duty of putting together the 17 dishes that would be served for our annual Wild Game dinner. The dishes ranged from alligator stew to wild turkey gumbo. They included bear roast, wild boar sausage w/ sauerkraut, elk, wild goose with rice, grilled pheasant, mountain oysters, rabbit, squirrel pot pie, fried squirrel, turtle soup, fried turtle, wild turkey w/ stuffing, corned venison, venison w/bacon wrap, and venison stir-fry. They were accompanied with numerous salads and desserts.
It was difficult to get the gallery out to the field after this sumptuous meal.
We would like to thank the ladies from other clubs who pitched in to help out: Linda Edwards, Sharon Nixon, and our newest lady to the club – Kim Williams (LA’s William’s recent bride).
