AKC Regular and Advanced Brace Beagle Field trial Judging Seminars were held at Southern Michigan this past weekend. The events were planned and coordinated by Barry MacRae, Field Trial Secretary at southern Michigan. Concerning this Barry said, “The seminars were set up in conjunction with the AKC to train licensed trial judges in what current procedures are and to qualify new judging candidates for our sport.”

Eleven judging candidates participated in the class on Saturday and all passed the test and are now qualified to judge licensed brace trial events. Nineteen previously qualified judges participated in the discussions on Sunday and are now qualified to judge brace trials for an additional six years beginning in 2011. There also were about ten spectators who participated many of whom had already attended an advanced seminar.

AKC representative Mickey Sergio conducted the judging events and was very happy with the results from both days. Regarding this he said, “I thought the seminar went excellently the first day. There were several young beaglers who were really interested in the sport and they had several very good questions. There was great participation in the Advanced Seminar today and lots of tough subjects were handled. There was great participation from both the panel and attendants.”

Concerning the sport of Brace Beagling Sergio had this to say. “Anytime we can set down and discuss dogs it is a good time. Brace Beagling is here to stay.”

Tom Baker, Max Steffen and Danny Williams were on the panel and were called upon by Sergio at various times to comment on various aspects of judging. Participants were asked to respond and ask questions and they did so readily,

Sergio said the AKC expects its qualified judges to use the rule book and to take command of the trial they are judging.
