On April 4 the church gathers together to celebrate the Resurrection of Jesus Christ. it comes with the hope that the fullness of the victory and joy of the Lord are yours!
One of the changes that occurred between the Old Testament and the New Testament phases of the covenant of grace is that from the Sabbath (seventh day) of old to the Lord's Day (first day) of the New.
One of the reasons for this change (we might guess, for we are not told directly) is that most of the first Christians were both Jews who continued to honor the Hebrew Sabbath. This required another opportunity for them to gather as Christians to worship God and encourage one another in terms of their completed faith.
Another reason (we might guess, again) is that the Lord's grave was found emptied on the first day of the week. This historical fact is central to our faith. The Christian religion is not rooted in the feelings or experiences of people, but in the Person of Jesus Christ. He claimed to be God. His emptied tomb is evidence of the first class that His claim is true. It is no wonder, then, that this day became highly regarded by His first century followers.
Thus, every Sunday...and not just Easter is the day we celebrate His great victory over sin and death.
I hope that this great event and all the articles of faith properly drawn from it, are of central importance to you as you honor God during this season and as you live your life from day to day throughout the year that separates us from out next celebration of Easter!
