"What would Jesus Do? " is a question applied to nearly irrelevant issues.

"Would Jesus drive an American car or an import?" is a query invented by those hoping to sell the products of our domestic auto industry!

"Would Jesus shop at Walmart?" is a question posed by the holier-than-thou advocates of the unionization of its employees!

"Would Jesus do this or that?" are questions that in most cases can't be answered because they relate to issues not present in the Lord's lifetime. And, furthermore, they're unfair questions because they assume rather than seek an answer.

But we're in the midst of a national election and the question, "How would Jesus vote?" is not irrelevant!

For any Christian to identify himself first of all and above all else as a Democrat or Republican and vote accordingly and thoughtlessly is to reveal that he has declared this area of his life off-limits to God!

There are issues in many elections that bear directly on the application of the religion of Jesus Christ to those minds of His people and to the lives of all.

My Bible convinces me that huuman morality is a matter of first importance to God. And That the military, economic and social welfare of a nation are byproducts of their morality.

If this principle is valid, then I'm reuired to look first not at the stance of a candidate regarding war or health care or the economy, but at his or her private life and public philosophu regarding issues of personal morality.

Let's not vote this year as those who identify themselves first and finally as Democrats or Republicans. Let's not vote as people who believe that questions about military ventures, finance or health care are of supreme importance.

Let's carefully, prayerfully, studiously consider 'How would Jesus vote?" And let us vote accordingly!
