From The Pastor's Desk....February, 2006

The story is told that after God created the Earth He turned to pick up His plans for the rest of His work and accidentally bumped this newest of the heavenly bodies. The result is the 23-degree tilt of the planet that resutls in the joys of Michigan winters.

Winter here is a time of great beauty to those who look and of great danger to those who walk! Many of us have stories to tell of uxexpected slips and painful falls. Our granddaugher, filled with the excitement and vigor of youth, ran across a patch of ice and fell flat on her back. She survived, sorer but wiser!

This reminds me of the Christian life, which the Bible says is

a "walk" (Ephesians 4:1)
a "path" (Psalm 1:6)
and a "way" (Psalm 1:6) along which we follow Christ (John 11:10)

We are instructed to make God's Word

a "lamp to our feet and a light to our paths" (Psalm 119:105)
and warned to be careful lest we "stumble" (John 11:10)
and even "fall (I Corinthians 10:12)

The next time the ice beneath our feet prompts caution in our steps, let's remember the need to cling to Jesus for safety dand direction in our Christian "Walk"!
