From The Pastor's Desk....November, 2006

David was a man whose life was a marked contrast of bane and blessing. He was King of Isreal at the height of its national glory but a man whose family life was a disaster. Adulation and loneliness, laughter and weeping, victory and defeat were his lot. Yet he was a man of godly wisdom who saw the hand of God in all Things. For this reason he was prompted to write the 103rd Psalm:

Bless the Lord, O my soul;
And all that is within me, bless His holy name!
Bless the Lord, O my soul
and forget not all His benefits...
The Lord has established His throne in heaven,
And His kingdom rules over all!

November is the time of our national day of Thanksgiving.

For the person who denies the existence or relevance of God the giving of thanks has no meaning. Either there is no god to influence the flow of history and individual lives or the god who exists is unable or unwilling to act in time. In either case, events are the the result only of chance or fate making worship, prayer and thanksgiving foolish exercises in self-delusion.

For the Christian, however, God is not only very real but very much involved in the shaping of the history of nations and the lives of people. Events are tools in His hands to draw us nearer Himself, to mold our faith, to streghten our character, to sweeten our lives and to prepare us for eternity.

May we see His hand in all things and may every day be one of thanksviging for us as His redeemed people!
